Because of its strong smell, ammonia can be used by itself as a rabbit repellent. Ammonium soap containing fatty acids will also work. You don’t need to figure out complicated formulas or mix a bunch of different ingredients together to keep rabbits away. Ordinary household ammonia, typically located in the cleaning or laundry products section of stores, will do the trick when used at full strength to repel rabbits. That makes it a good choice for gardeners who want a simple, natural solution to their rabbit problem.

Soak strips of old rags in pure ammonia, and place them on the trails the rabbits are using to get into your garden. The rags will hold the scent and make life unpleasant for the pests. If you find a rabbit’s den, put some of the ammonia-scented rags in the entryway to encourage the residents to move out. The rags need to be damp all the time to be effective; for best results place strips of rags in cups and set them around the areas you want the rabbits to avoid. Spray the ammonia or ammonium soaps directly on foliage to further deter the pest.

Add one part egg, one part milk, one part dish soap, and five to 10 garlic cloves to a blender. Pour the mixture into a closed container and place outside for 24 hours (where it will to start to spoil). Strain the mixture and spray it around your bushes, trees, flowers and the perimeter of the property one a week. According to Golden Harvest Organics, deer and other animals do not like the scent of eggs.
